GED Social Studies Study Guide
Welcome to the GED social studies test study guide! In this guide, we’ll explore the test inside and out while giving you plenty of opportunities to practice your new knowledge and skills.
Note
In the following sections, important vocabulary words and concepts are highlighted in bold.
To get started, here are the two most important pieces of information you need to know about the test.
Number of Questions | Time Limit |
35 | 70 minutes |
Although you have two minutes per question, keep in mind that the GED social studies test requires a lot of reading and analysis. If you lack time management skills, you’ll likely struggle to answer every question in 70 minutes.
That said, let’s address your biggest question – “What do I need to know for test day?”
Topics Covered | Approximate Percentage of Questions |
Government and Civics | 50% |
U.S. History | 20% |
Economics | 15% |
Geography | 15% |
Each topic contains many subjects, and, at first glance, you may feel stressed out about memorizing a ton of information. Don’t fret. Yes, you need a basic-level understanding of these topics (and we will spend ample time covering them!). However, most questions assess your ability to analyze and interpret a passage, map, chart, image, or graph.
